I bought a Honeywell 3 speed fan the other day to test out how low I can get the water temperature before I make the decision to get an axolotl. It has brought the tank down from 72 to 66 degrees and occasionally raises up to 67 degrees. The fan I bought can't be angled downward so right now it is pointed face down on top of a screen lid. Are there any fans that can be angled across the water and can cool better than 66 degrees?

Heres a link to a cheap fan I bought off of amazon. Cheap portable fan. The fan is super adjustable, has 3 power settings, comes in a few colors (if thats important, haha) On its highest setting there is a noticeable humming. Not quiet, but not obtrusive either.

I tested it out when the temps warmed up in my area. I positioned this fan as best as I could to blow air across the entire surface of my 20 gallon long tank. After about 2.5 hours on highest setting, this little fan was able to cool down my tank 5 degrees consistently. In my case it fit the bill.

I'm sure you can find cheaper and something that will fit your needs better. Good luck!

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
