Fasting an Axolotl?

I have a juvenile Axolotl around 4-5 months, and he has seemed to get slightly overweight when I feed him every day. I know most people say that young axies should be fed every day, but would it be a good idea to fast him every once in a while to lose weight? I heard that some people take one day of the week where they don't feed their axolotl, just to give the salamander a day to let the food pass through. (I have been feeding him small-medium sized worms which are recommended)
