I'll be making a pit stop in Athens County, Ohio in a few days. I'll have full unrestricted access to a remote farm up in the mountains. There's a pond, several springs and streams and lots of vernal puddles. It's mountainous so there's valleys, ravines and cliffs on the property (40 acres + unused surrounding lots) .

I've got a new camera that can take some pretty good macro shots so I'm going to be digging around for critters.

Does anyone have any suggestions/hints/clues for what I should be looking for?

If you get a good field guide, that should tell you the species that are native to the area.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
