i just baught a 30 gallon tank for either ensicauda popei or some kind of paramesotriton, i know that neither like fast currents, so i was going to go for a fluval 1, the guy in the shop told me that it wouldn't be powerful enough and wouldn't reach the whole tank, and that i would need a fluval 2 at least. Is this the case? Will a fluval 2 be ok in a 30 gallon tank with ensicauda popei?
(i think i have decided on them)

I'd go with the Fluval 1. It may not do a perfect job with filtering, but these newts are not big mess-makers, and you do want to avoid a current as much as possible. I would say 4 ensicauda would be a good number for that tank; I certainly wouldn't go any higher than 4 or 5 max. If the newts are fully-aquatic adults, set up the tank with at least 12 inches of water.

cool, thats what I thought, AND they keep cynops orientalis with a heater, they won't listen to me, aparently fire bellied newts are a 'tropical species'????!!!

Just to let you know: I have a fluval 2 in my 20 gallon, and it filters great and produces a lot of current. But you can increase or decrease the flow rate. I have it set on high all the time so I'm not sure how slow the lowest outflow is.

i looked at fluval 2, so are you saying that it will still filter just as well and reach as far in the tank, but at a slower rate, if i so choose?, because i might get this one instead of the fluval 1 if that is the case, it would be ideal for newts, keep the tank clean but not stress the newts..
