Hey,

My little dude fire bellied newt Steve (who is probably a female but I have no idea) is causing me concern the last few weeks.
Their stomach seems to have grown and isn't pausing or going back down.
Their behaviour hasn't changed in the slightest. They still eat food when offered and their neck hasn't swollen.
All I can gather from the various forums is it could be bloat or kidney failure but I don't know. I'm not sure if this is gravid?
Vets here don't look at newts but I left an email with or local wildlife park as they care for amphibians and the works.
Steve was fat long ago in the past but has never been this size and it's genuinely scaring me.
They're alone in their tank and the temps in Ireland have been pretty warm since May but nothing has changed with their set up or diet.
I just need expert advice as I'm alone on this

Thanks ahead
also don't mind the messer with their food all over their mouth xD

I may be able to help you troubleshoot, but I will need some more information:
- What kind of set up are they in? (Size, aquatic vs terrestrial, substrate, plants, décor and hides) A picture may be helpful
- What are the water parameters (Ammonia, Nitrates, Nitrites, pH and Temp)
- What kind of water are you using, and are you adding anything to it?
- What are you feeding and how often are you feeding? Are you adding any supplements (dusting) to the food?
- Are they still defecating?
- How old is Steve? Were they Captive bred or wild caught?
- Have you tried anything thus far? Has anything helped at all?

If it is bloat, the cause can be though to pin down.
I do not suspect that Steve is Gravid.
