Hello!
I got a group of 3 firebellies about 6 months ago off kijiji, the woman told me they were C. orientalis but said that she had gotten them a number of years ago from a small pet shop and might be wrong. I'm pretty sure they're not orientalis but I'm not sure what they actually are. I was told by a breeder that they were Cynops cyanurus but they don't have the orange cheek spot that all of the ones on google images do..
The 2 females are roughly 4-4.5 inches long.
The male is closer to 3" and he fires up quite blue during breeding season (although it doesn't look very bright in the photos)

If you have any ideas on what species they might be please let me know!
Thank you!!:)

(I included the pics as jpgs and a PDF file because it doesn't look like the jpgs are uploading properly, sorry for duplicates!)

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
