Hi,

My axylotl swallows air bubbles every now and then, but then this makes him float either head up, tail up or today his whole body was floating (he's still moving!) I read once that this is a bad sign...he is about 7 years old. Any tips or ideas??

Thanks, Michelle :)

Re: floating axylotl!!

Hi Michelle,

Axolotls will float for a variety of reasons. They will float due to poor water quality, gas, constipation, an obstruction, stress or if just doing a pooh. Axies may also float just because they feel like it.

If you could post your water parameters (Ammonia/Nitrite/Nitrate/PH and Water Temperature) we may be able to ascertain what the problem may be.

What sort of substrate are you using?

What is the size of the tank and type of filter being used?

What are you feeding the axolotl?

If you have questions on axolotls, it's best to post them in the axolotl section of the forum for speedier response.

Cheers Jacq.
