Floating problem

Hey guys - Gaara turned out fine; not sure what the white things were, but they're gone. I bought him a roomie, a white leucistic (yay!), her name is Moopy. She was underfed when I bought her, and spent a solid half hour eating last night. Today, her bum is floating like nothing else. She's been scrambling for her cave to hold her down. I'm assuming its a gas build up - but how long can it last?

Hi Matthew
I'm glad Gaara is fine and that you have a roomie for him. I have read your post in the for sale, trade etc section - my reply will appear once it has been approved, but in the meanwhile I still have 4 axies looking for a home if you have room for any of them. Three are black (melaniod maybe) and one is albino. Email me if you would like them

Could be in need of a poo!. Can you put her in a container with tank water/dechlorinated water enuf water to cover her but just above her fin so she doesn't bum float. If your temps are on the warm side, then place the container in the fridge (if above 5deg C. Do complete daily waterchanges (another container of dechlorinated water placed in fridge beside hers at same time, will save you time so she can be swapped to new container next day. ) The cooler temp and lowered water will destress her and she may poo out whatever is blocking her.

BTW you shud really quarantine any new addition to a tank for at least 30 days. This is so the new addition/roomie doesn't pass any nasties onto your healthy axie.

ok, so moopy is in a small tank with just enough water to cover her body, her bum is slightly raised but hardly any, due to the low water level. What now?

Nevermind! Thanks for the tip Kapo. After a few hours at 10degC in the fridge with a low water level she's back to non floating goodness!

Sigh...A new day dawns and another day spent with her bum in the air. Any ideas as to why shes so susceptable to this? Gaara has never had any gas issues :S

Just leave her in the fridge for a few days! If she still bumfloats, then try and ensure her water doesn't allow her to float but stand in the container. What do you feed her btw? Could also be cos the temps are heating up.
