Does anyone know why some ax's have fluffier gills?
i have 4 ax's, the large male has normal gill length but a lot shorter (or less fuller) fillaments/branches.
the large female and the 2 smaller ones look like they've just come back from the hairdresser with a new Coiffure.

its to do with water temp i think, mine get lovely gills sometimes but then they go away

ive read somewhere that the warmer the water is the less oxygen is in it so they grow more gill bits to get more oxygen. wouldnt have a clue if this is true or not though

maybe it could be how powerful your filter is and if you have a airpump i would reckon if there is less airiation in the water there gills will grow more i dont no if this is true or not

I heard that when there is less oxygen in the water, the gills grow bigger.
