Real Name Rule

Real Name Rule

Your profile is required to include, at a minimum, your surname (family name) and first initial. This is for security purposes. You may choose to not show this name to other users by editing your profile settings, but the name must be in the profile.

You agree that any information you provide to us is real (such as your identity and e-mail address). Fraudulent and false information submitted by users could lead to banning from the forum and possible legal proceedings for breach of confidence.

Misuse of Private Messaging

Misuse of Private Messaging

Users agree to not harass or spam other users of Caudata.org either through the private messaging system found on Caudata.org or directly through email addresses given in confidence by other Caudata.org users. Soliciting/harassment, discussion of illegal (according to US law) or socially unacceptable matters or practices, and contacting a user aged under 18 regarding specifically non site-related matters will result in a permanent ban and blacklisting of your IP address – this will not be reversed. This option can also be used at a moderator’s discretion. Most offences of this kind do not receive a warning for the first offence, so consider this that warning. This matter also pertains to the Privacy Policy (linked below), so please ensure you read that document too.

If you are the victim of a user misusing the private message system, please use the report feature on the private message or contact a moderator immediately and send them a copy of the offending message(s).

Standard English Usage

Standard English Usage

We require that English speakers not write in nonsense words (such as those used in text messages). Please refrain from the use of words like "gonna," and please use good grammar and punctuation. Remember that new subjects and sentences warrant the use of a capital letter. Proper punctuation will make your message much easier to understand, and thus improve the discussion. Banning won't occur for such offences, but we actively encourage moderators and users to lower the reputation of users who insist on speaking drivel. Non-native English speakers will not be penalized for grammatical errors.

Locality Information

Locality Information

It is against forum rules to request specific locations for animals in the field. No requests for this information or any references to the specific county, city or coordinates of animals are allowed.

Acceptable topics include asking for habitat preferences and general field herping tips (i.e. check fence rows or rock walls.)

Does anyone know if aquacare general tonic is ok for axolotls as a treatment for bacterial or fungal infection?

Hi Lilith, you can check the medications page for a list of axolotl safe treatments. Although if the infection is mild, I would stick with fridge and salt baths!

I believe the fridge gets to about 54°, so if you can replicate that in the tank, it might be okay. I personally would fridge just to make catching them easier, and if the infection is something in the water column at all, it will hopefully die out while they're AWOL (I'm thinking like ich for fish, not sure if axies have an equivalent)

My three inch axolotl was having trouble pooping up to a few days ago. I wasn't feeding her as often because I was scared I would just add to her constipation. I fridged her until she pooped (twice), and then began to feed her around 6 bloodworms every other day. she's been pooping everyday now, but she's at that age where you can see through her stomach and I always see poop ready to come out but has not yet passed. I don't think she's constipated anymore, but I'm not sure and i don't want to over or underfeed her... any advice?

Its probably not pooping because its hardly beign fed, it pooped in the fridge because the lower temp caused it to purge itself. If it stays constipated you can pm me

Hi guys. Quick question. I have newly morphed eastern newt efts. They lost their gills but they still prefer the water. I have coconut fiber, moss, hidey holes and some food in the temporary habitat for them (waiting for the other newts to morph as well). But they still run back to the water. Is it the wrong substrate? Do they prefer something other than coconut fiber? I've been doing everything else properly (According to my research) but just wondering why they haven't ventured up. Have any ideas?

My guess is they simply have no reason to leave. Do they still get enough food in the water? Maybe humidity is too low?

I spray mist the place every day. And I do still feed him. One of them has finally come out. But now I have another problem. They don't look like eastern newts! I am posting pictures on a thread I've started. If you can, take a look for me and see. :)
