Hi there, I tried to get a good picture with my camera, I don’t know if it captured it. Recently my axolotl (guppy or gubster is his name) has been developing what looks like little grey/brown spots on his face... All my tank parameters and temp is perfect, no current I use silk plants to lessen the flow from my sponge filter he’s eating fine and pooping fine. I’m just worried is his slime coat on his face peeling...? Or are those little specs freckles he’s developing? He’s other wise pretty happy and loves to greet me at the top of his tank for meal time. Can anyone tell me what they are? Thanks a bunch!

Those look natural to me, how old is he? My 3 year old girl has gotten some spots on her. Apparently it's common as they age.

Those should be fine. My Axolotl Princess has the same spots on her and yours are likely natural as wel. As long as they aren’t showing signs of discomfort such as itchiness, refusing food, etc. it should be fine.

Totally normal. Leucistic axolotls, like yours, commonly develop "freckles" like that.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
