i have never joined anything like this before but would like some help it was my birthday friday 17th oct and i got humpfrey a white if you call them that colour axolotl i have him in a 3 ft tank and basically know about his care he had a belly full of blue gravel in when i got him but he has chocked up 13 pieces of it so i think hes clear now.i have sand on my tank not gravel.as i have read that is the best .but what i have a question is i have noticed he spends a lot of his time looking at himself well i say himself not sure if its a boy or girl but i thought he looked like a humpfrey but he doesn,t look aggressive at the reflection he just sits there with a kind of bemused look on his face so i thought he might like a friend but not sure if you can keep 2 together happily i asked and was told yes but if they bite each others toes off they will regrow which horrifies me i don,t want any of them hurt .so does any one know if i can get humpfery a friend safely,i,ll be very gratefull for any info .

You can keep two together in a 3 foot tank. However, any new axolotls should be quarantined for diseases.

As long as you have well fed axolotls, and you provide enough hiding spaces, you should have a minimal amount of fighting. This fighting usually isn't aggressive, but a matter of one axolotl mistaking the leg of the other as a worm.

As for the gravel, I think you'll be surprised at how much might continue to come out.
