My friend and I are debating over tree frogs, the question is: Are Red Eyed Tree and Black Eyed tree frogs part of the monkey frogs?

Red-eyed tree frogs (leaf frogs) are part of the Agalychnis genus while monkey frogs are part of the Phyllomedusa genus.

They are closely related to "monkey frogs"...

The genus Phyllomedusa (which are most commonly called monkey frogs) and the genus Agalychnis (containing red-eyed and black-eyed treefrogs) are both in the same subfamily, Phyllomedusinae. This group is usually referred to as "leaf frogs" or "branch frogs."
