In the fish dept at my pet store they sell frozen plankton and krill cubes in the freezer. Are these safe for fire bellied newts? Do they enhance color?

Safe, probably, but they're not the best food.

Frozen food isn't as nutritious as fresh, live food, and cubes of tiny frozen food will make a huge mess, and the newts probably won't eat it anyway.
