Illness/Sickness: Fungus on front leg, tank mate is clumsy

Hi,

My year old axolotl has been experiencing some side effects from having a tank mate. (another year old axolotl) It wasn't so bad at first, but after the recent attack, I have decided to separate them. (Kind of sad, last time i put the divider in the sat at other sides of the screen next to each other).

He has been losing one or both of 1/2 of his front legs. I suspect the other axolotl thinks he is food.

I have started salt baths as one of the limbs seems to have a fungal growth on it, and has red coloration (like "bloodshot").

I have considered amputation, although not clear as to the proper procedure. We do not have any vets in the area who even know what the guy is. If it doesn't have whiskers or fetch balls, they are clueless.

Any advice appreciated. Apart from separation, salt baths, and what not. I was just poking around to see what else I could do.

His demeanor is normal. He is eating and moves plenty. Just worried the injury could change that.

Two things! (sorry i don't know ALOT but ill help as much as i can)

is there a large size difference between the two axies? if the aggressive axie is much bigger you could just separate them till thee victim is bigger and less likely to be attacked?

And considering amputation ive never performed such an act myself butt hold him still and get the scissors on the bad limb is what most people seem to do.

I think there are sedatives you can get to make it easier but i dont know much about them!!
