 My alfie has got little dark purple vein type things on his gills and the ends of the gills have gone rounded and lost some of their featheriness. Also he seems to be missing a toe, not sure how long for, other than that he's eating fine, doesn't seem stressed no curling of the tail. We struggle to keep the temp down past 22 except using fans but the noise seems to stress him out and he hids when they're on, I turn them off all night when the temp in the rooms drops but need them on during the day, any ideas, could he of hurt his toe in the tank? Also do the ends of the gills go rounded before they grow? any answers would be great hope I'm worrying bout nothing.
thank you.

Have you checked your water parameters, ie tested the water for ammonia, nitrite and nitrates? If you have a water quality issue, ie ammonia/nitrites above 0, this could effect your axolotl's gills. Warmer water also has less oxygen.

Unfortunately I don't have a kit, I'm trying to get one as soon as possible, wheres the best place to get them, is there anywhere on the internet that does quick delievery cause I'm in work till after the shops close so I wont be able to get one till the weekend. Have you ever heard of purple veins showing on the gills? I'm doing a 25% water change every other day, have a filter, unfortunately I didn't cycle the tank as I was not told too, unfortunately I was not told much by the shop I got him from, they said that he was fine in with goldfish, etc. Found out he wasn't so had to set up a new tank for him. I used water from my established tank to get the good bacteria going in the filter. The filter isn't very powerful, runs on an aerator pump to make sure the water doesn't move too much and I use 2 computer fans to keep it at about 19-20, but as I said he doesn't like them. I have sand on the ground (the only thing the guy did say was really big pebbles or sand) and I feed him a mixture of frozen bloodworm and small earthworms, both of which I wash to try and get rid of any dirt. If anyone knows of somewhere which delievers tester kits quickly to England I would be very greatful. I've only had him a week but I'm already very attached, he has alot of character for a little guy! :(

I'm based in the North West on the Wirral.
