CONTRACT JOURNAL (Sutton, UK) 28 May 08 Construction firm and four men charged with killing newts (Roxanne Millar)
A construction company and four men have been charged for killing protected newts.
Essential Vivendi is alleged to have killed the protected species at the company’s coastal cottage development The Bay in Filey, near Scarborough.
The development company has been charged along with Wayne Low, 35 of Leconfield, Laurence Corrigan, 55 of Cottingham, Richard Wiesener, 67 of Hessle, and John Groves, 65 of Kirk Ella.
Low and Corrigan are both believed to be directors at the company and Wiesener and Groves also senior bosses at the business.
Each have been charged with three counts of killing a schedule five wild animal and three counts of damaging or destroying a schedule five wild animal shelter.
The offences are alleged to have occurred on or after 1 October 2006.
Those charged failed to appear for a scheduled appearance at Scarborough Magistrate’s Court last week.
The case was adjourned until July 25.
