Hi! I’m getting another axolotl soon, and I’m wondering if you guys can help determine their gender! I’m really hoping that they are a male, but I cannot be so certain. Any help will be appreciated!
Also, I know that they are too young to tell for certain, but I just want to know what you guys think they may be.
Thanks!
And, I’d like to know what gender my current one may be as well!

Both look female at the moment, but you did say they were young, so there's always a chance. Like I said though, both look female

They're too young to tell at the moment. Males can develop as early as 6 months. To me, these look like normal cloacae. A male cloacae will also bulge outwards from the sides, you'd be able to see it from the back. For example, here's a determined male's cloaca.

Females cannot be definitively sexed until they are 18 months of age and their cloacae hasn't dropped.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
