I have a few fie belly newts that I have been keeping in a planted aqaurium and they have been doing great. I decided it was time to go and pick up another pair and when I arrived at the pet shop all they had was one left labeled as a giant fire bellied newt. He dwarfed my full grown newts, he had a few inches in length and was easily three times wider then any other ones I have ever seen. Now I am wondering if he is a diffrent species or waht and weather or not he can live with my other smaller newts.

Zack, until we have determined what he is, I would suggest separating the two possible species.

I agree, separate them immediately. Large newts can and will eat smaller ones. In addition, new newts from a pet shop can bring in diseases.

Oh sorry for taking so long to reply but I never actually bought the larger newt. That is why I never posted pictures or anything. I realize that the larger newt would eat the smaller since that is simply how the animal kingdom works.
