Gill regrowth?

How long does it take for gill regrowth to occur? my little fellow Yin, has been in the new tank for over a week now and his gills are completely bare of any regrowth.

In the previous tank, he had lost the majority of his gills tanks to ammonia probs, then the tank was re-cycled and he started to regrow them within a couple of days, then over x-mas i had another upset with temperature which wiped out all his regrowth, and he's spent the majority of the time since then in the fridge until finally being added to the new tank.

All my others are experiencing considerable regrow now but poor Yin doesn't appear to be. He also seems to swim around alot more than the others. All the readings in my tank are fine in regards to water quality and he's eating really well. Is it possible that it is just going to take longer, or is he simply not going to regrow them?

im not sure about the time length, my axie lost her gill filaments so long ago i cant even remember! is he much smaller than the others? i find young ones tend to swim alot more. might also be swimming because flapping them doesnt do much to re-oxygenate the water?
sorry i couldnt be of more help

actually he's the biggest out of the lot of them and the oldest (by a couple of months) which i'm wondering has some bearing since they don't seem to regenerate as quickly as the younger ones. He's also been the one who's been most affected with gill loss by ammonia and temperature.

What's the temp in the tank? If it's cold, then you won't see significant regrowth because it just doesn't need the surface area for oxygen exchanging.

Mine had one bitten off, and it was a good 6 months before it looked remotely like the others. It'll vary between animals and tanks.

the temperature is 20 degrees, the previous regrowth he had after being affected by the ammonia was in 24-26 degree heat. thanks joan, your reply explains alot.
