Gills deteriorating on one side..reasons?

The gills on one side have almost disappeared on one frond.What could be the reason for this.?They also seem to have gone fluffy.Apart from that Frankie is eating ok and her tail shows no signs of stress.

they look ok to me.. maybe he got bitten by another axie either from the shop if he was kept with any or if you have any others. i wouldnt worry about it, mine have fluffy spells every now and again, mainly in summer and as long as hes acting fine he should be sweet!

just incase what are your water parameters, tank mates, tank size and water temp

She lives with about 20 female guppies of varying ages and a snail. The temps fine now though 38 forecast for mon tues wont be nice ..ph is about 7.5 i think the gill was damaged about 2 months ago when a goldfish had a nibble but has lost it over the last two days markedly.Frankie is eating pellets at the mo but no heart,plus i hope the occasional guppie.they are new in the tank most of the guppies only arrived a few days ago but there were other guppies previously in with her.they came from a clean undiseased source. hope this info helps ta.

right on rob, theres your answer. those naughty little things will be eating her gills, they would look pretty tempting to a fish id imagine, thats why we dont reccomend keeping them with any other fish.

38C is way too hot, if your tank gets above 24C you need to look at cooling it, either by rotating ice bottles (time consuming), putting her in a small container in a eksy and pack around it with ice packs or putting her in the fridge (as long as its above 5C)

I've seen fish in a pet store chewing on an axie's gills. The axie was pretty frail and barely reacted.
I've caught my two nipping at each other as well, but only round food...
