Gills jerking

Hi there,
just wondered if other people ever noticed their axies gills jerking back regularly. My dark boy has now finally begun living lower in the tank- as a young babe he could only float. Now he is a juvenile i guess and his gills have become fluffy and they twitch or jerk often. Is this a way to obtain more oxygen maybe? any ideas?

yup. thats exactly it. they regularly flick their gills to brush away the water and get some fresh oxygen round them.
