I'm a very happy chap this morning, It's been a long time coming, many have tried and all have failed up till now, but at last I've managed to get my hands on the worlds largest frogs - Goliath Frogs (Conraua)!
These are large juveniles that look to be real huge monsters when fully grown.

Very nice Andrew. Are they captive bred? What is their temperament like? Most ranids make nervous captives and a 3kg bag of nerves would be a real handful! I tried R. catesbeiana in a tank once....nightmare... never again.

These are WC, seem quite well tempered, the moment I put them in water they calmed right down, don't seem to be as jumpy as most Ranidae I've dealt with.
I've been comparing them to the small amount of photographs I can find and they look very similar to the pics Conraua alleni.

Hey andrew... they are looking as good as I thought... Did you get the XL one?

Do you have any information on this species?
From experiences in Germany (Zoo Duisburg in the 1970s+80s) they seem to be food specialists.
Despite all efforts all specimens died within a few months.

From this I don´t expect you to keep them longer.....

finally!!

i thought they'd be larger, but they are still huge for a frog! great to see some clear pictures of them!

Michael> These only arrived with me this morning, they have been feeding at the importers so should not be a problem, they are not the C.goliath but from photo comparisons more likely C.alleni so feeding may be different from those Zoo Duisburg encountered.

No Problems here either... other than the sheer volume of food they can eat LOL

And as Andrew said they really are not as nervous as most Ranas are... plenty of cover and they are cruising around mopping up worms and crickets
