I have some questions about great stuff. I have seen may people make awesome aquariums with it and I am coming up with ideas for my own tanks.

first. what is the lifespan of great stuff?

two. when you use great stuff do you need to make sure that it is completely covered in silicone? will contact between your tank's water and great stuff be a problem for the great stuff or the newts?

Alot of people use silicone to attach cocofiber to their great stuff. how does the cocofiber do long term? does it rot? should you use something other than cocofiber for the areas of your tank that will be underwater?

My idea is to make islands out of rocks wood and great stuff. they will be removeable though so that I don't ruin my tank. I am thinking of having a base out of a square piece of glass or shale and siliconing rocks and driftwood together to form a volcano shaped island. and then filling the crater with great stuff and carving "pots" out of the great stuff for plants. Do you guys think this will work?

Question 1: I cant answer question 1 sorry.

Question 2: on the can it says that it prevents water from passing and leaking but in any case regardless I would silicone it just for good measurements.

Coco fiber does not rot easily. Eventually, some of the fibers might come off or decay away. I have used coco fiber in plant pots that were completely under water in an aquarium (as a substrate for above-water plants), and the coco fiber did not do anything nasty to the water quality. It did impart a bit of yellowish color, probably tannins.

It's hard to comment on your plan, as it's difficult to imagine exactly what you have in mind. But it sounds like it could work.

Thanks for your comments. I Think that I will give my idea a try. I will let you all know how it works.
