Growing moss

I see this spectacular setups with moss everywhere and i just wonder what do ppl do to make moss grow like that????
I´ve had moss growing in my terrariums...but all they did was growing taller....but no new moss extended anywhere...

Many mosses requires a lot higher light intensity than most people think. It sounds like the lighting was too low for the best growth. I get great moss growth when I use power compacts to light my tanks

I´m sorry but...what do you mean by power compacts..??? fluorescents??
I thought mosses required low levels of light...looks like i was wrong...
the only problem is....wouldn´t the bright light disturb the newts in the tank???

Hi Rodrigo, power compacts are in spanish: "bombillas ahorradoras o de bajo consumo"

saludosss

oh ok...i see. Thanx Javier!

Now that i know what they are i remember a friend´s paludarium that had extremely fast plant growth, and he used one of those.
I´ll give it a try...if i get half the result this guy got i´ll be more than happy.

I can grow a good terrarium moss by mixing peat moss and sand in a 50/50 mixture and then keeping it moist and humid under the power compact lights. To keep the humidity up I put the whole pot inside a plastic bag and make sure it doesn't dry out.
It takes a couple of months for the moss to really take off but once it does, the moss can be transplanted into the terraria.
