Growth problem?

i got two axys around about the same time.

one of em is more than twice as big as the other and they were ish the same size.

the one that is smaller seems to eat more and doesnt regurgitate food back up or anything. he seems fine....just small...same size as when i got him a couple of months ago.

they are also home now! my tank is so got! white sand and blue and green ornaments! but theyve already pooped loads so doesnt go very well against the white sand. will try get pix.

i got two salamanders to! they cost £40 each! aparently theyre rare or something...'palm salamanders' ive called them arthur and sabego.

I'm getting very worried. Do you even know how to take care of these salamanders? Have you not seen the advice given to many people that you should read up on what u are getting BEFORE you get it.

And with your college/uni or what eva your doing do u think your are going to have enought time for all these animals?

First off - I purchased two axolotls at the same time a couple months ago as well. One's a little over 6 inches and the second is just over 5. I'm not worried, since they're both eating well and are healthy. I wouldn't worry too much at all.

Second - I'm not sure if it was a good idea for you to impulsively purchase two salamanders if you don't know what species or what their habitat specifications are, rare or not. If you're really interested in purchasing salamanders (not just because they're "cute,") then I suggest you study up on them before immediately buying them.
 
Have to agree with Dot & Kim. When I was very much younger (10 yrs old) I received two fire sallies for a birthday present (all axies were gone :-( ).

We kept them in an almost bare tank with little flora and improper food. The poor things survived two years on what must have been hell for them. Now I look back I feel terrible for them and urge you to get reading whatever you can on your purchases and talk in discuss them with those who know about them in the chat room.

Your very lucky that we have this site and there are so many knowledgeable people around and so many good pages of info. When I was a kid I had a book that contained about 10 pages and most of those were b&W pictures. You have to love the net!

Oh yeah and when I was a kid you had to get up an hour before you went to bed and eat cold, cold mind you, gravel for breakfast.
 
And did you have to walk barefoot in 3 feet of snow uphill both ways to get to and from school every day? :D
 
And it was over an hour to walk to school?

i was in the pet shop for like 40 mins n was askin him loadsa stuff n i have got them the correct set up...bark, water bowl etc.

there isnt much on the net but what i have read is all what i was told. plus i have a big book on reptiles on order.

with my axy...he was 3 inches when i bought him same as the other and still is...the other ones is about 5.5 inches now.
 
Sadly jenny, pet shops don't always know what they're talking about - and i know this to my cost.....My very first lotl (Ooid) didn't last very long, and i too had spent a long time in the shop asking about habitat and feeding.
After taking advice from lovely Caudata.org people i went back to the shop and found that she'd been fed exclusively on whitebait. I have since had discussions with the man about suitable diets for lotls and pointed him in the direction of this site - and he really couldn't care less. As long as they live long enough to sell, i don't think he' bothered.
To the best of my knowledge, he's still at it - advising people who buy lotls to feed them a diet that will eventually kill them

What is good though, is that you've found this site - so you can check out all that you were told, and verify the advice you were given. Good luck!
 
i know the petshop that she went it was exotica and i have to say they do no a lot on newts and sals as they are a newts sals lizard shop and they give very good info
 
you what??.... I couldnt understand one word of that even with reading 5 times.

Newts and salamanders are not reptiles.....
 
I have to say that carls post reads to me... 'I know the petshop that she went to it was exotica and I have to say they don't know alot about newts and sals as they are a lizard shop'

But then Carl you say ' and they give very good info'.. thats what I dont understand.
 
I think he means good info on lizards, but it's difficult to tell what language he's speaking in....
 
He used "no" instead of "know." Amphibians are often grouped with reptiles because of their similarities and amphibians are such a small group of animals compared to fish, reptiles, birds, etc. He was saying that the shop is reputable and generally gives good information.
