The HDX shelves at Home Depot seem like a pretty good deal, you can get 5 36" shelves for about 40$ plus all the connectors. The only thing is they are kind of tall, 18", which wastes a lot of space for terrestrial amphibians. I am thinking of cutting the holes in half. Just curious what sizes boxes most people use for salamanders, 6-7" seems like it would be more than enough height to me.
