Hello from Dallas, TX and looking for newts...

Hi! My name is Matt Weedon and just joined the caudata.org forum. My 11yr old son has successfully kept a number of different amphibians for some time now and I have really enjoyed encouraging him and helping him as he learns more and more. He has a number of different habitats in his room (one tank with three firebelly toads, one tank with a fire salamander and a tank with two axolotls). He has been fascinated with aquatic newts for some time now and we've been on the search to locate a couple. I know the ban on shipping across state lines has put a damper on the availability, but we'd love to locate some captive bred specimens. Anyone with a connection we would greatly appreciate the contact info.

We look forward to learning more and more about these fascinating creatures.

I dont know where but there are reptile shows in texas and you might find some there but i dont knowabout that one

I'm also from the Dallas area. I have seen newts at only one reptile show out of the 4 or so I go to a year. It was around a month ago at the NARBC at Arlington Convention Center. They had fire-belly newts and some other types I cannot recall. Other than that, I have never seen them in my area.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the response! Yes, we were at the NARBC in Arlington about a month ago too and did see the vendor (Aguamigos) that had the tank full of Fire Belly Newts. We didn't have the enclosure all set up yet and unfortunately didn't purchase at that time. I've reached out to them since and they sold them all!

If anyone finds out about another breeder in Texas that would be great!
