I have just joined and would like to start by saying that it is my 13yr old son that has 4 chinese fire bellied newts and we have just noticed a little black blob with a tail on the glass of the tank it look a bit like a tadpole is this a baby newt and what should we do???????

It sounds like poop. A good sign, but nothing to get excited about As you see, your newt can climb - I hope you have a secure lid! These FAQ may be helpful:

Thanks for your suggestion but i dont think its poop it has moved and the newts are no where near it they seem to all lie on top of one another and then a few days later this appeared

Newts lay eggs. Despite them 'laying on top of each other', they probably weren't mating.
