Hi. I just joined today and I am very interested in newts.

I do not, and have not, own a newt. I will be getting a Chinese Fire Belly Newt (Cynops orientalis) in January, or some time later in spring. Later (once I'm more experienced with newts), I would like to get Hong Kong Newts (Paramesotriton hongkongensis), an Emperor Newt (Tylototriton shanjing), and other newts. I'm not really that into salamanders, but I do like Marbled Salamanders (Ambystoma opacum).

I will be sure to post many questions all over the forums. :lol:

Welcome, Roho. It's great that you are reading and posting before taking the plunge and getting actual animals. Note that Emperor Newts are kept under the same conditions more like salamanders (a terrarium, not an aquarium). I mention this just in case your preference for newts is due to a preference for aquatic animals. If you are interested in getting captive-bred animals (as opposed to animals taken directly from the wild), keep an eye on the ads section of this forum. Animals in pet shops are nearly always wild-caught.
