Hello guys, i´m from Portugal and i love nature and all about it. My principal hobby is cultivation and enthusiastic of carnivorous plants.

I have 2 hypselotriton orientalis about 1,5years and i want to know if you know if they are male or female please.

Soon i will do a topic with the setup.

IT's hard to tell outside of mating season, when the male cloaca swells. Or maybe some more side pictures. I think holding it by the tail would flatten the cloaca and make it harder to sex.

Mating season means when they court and get pregnant, "do babies" if you can say so about newts they both look female to me in these pictures but it's very uncertain as they are lifted from tail. If you can, take side pictures in water (under belly too if it's possible when they are not hold).

Sorry, I misread your guestion (thought it was "what" )...in a tank they can breed almost all year around depending water chemistry, warmth etc.

Usually they develop mating traits after a period of cool down and warming up, or in the spring. That could start any time after December! It depends on the conditions that you keep them in. This is just general information.
