HELP! axolotl not feeding and has started floating

My axolotl has not been feeding for two weeks, there do not seem to be any visible problems such as fungus, the water temperature has been kept low, normally she eats frozen beef heart, so I don't think it can be a case of contaminated food...she has started floating in the past couple of days, I am unable to tell if she has swallowed a stone...I'm very worried about losing her, so any suggestions as to what might be wrong will be greatly appreciated...thanks

My axolotl just went 4 weeks moping around and not eating. He just started eating last night. All you can do is keep the water quality good, offer a variety of food and isolate him if you have others in the tank and you think he may have something contagious. But it is a worry when they don't eat. I don't know whereabouts in Australia you are, but it has been pretty cold in Perth and I think that had something to do with it. Good luck.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
