Hello all. so i decided to go to my sisters garden and dig up some earth worms for my Axolotl.
i only dug up about 20. ive put them in a tub with the soil i found them in with some mashed potato and will make sure everything is okay with them before i feed them to my axie.
However when i had a close look at one of them a white string like thing was coming out of one of them it was wriggling and looked like another worm?
is this normal? i dont know what earth worm babies look like so not sure if it was giving birth? :S can someone help please!
Thankyou in advance. :)

Worms lay eggs, they are not livebearers so whatever is coming out of the worms is not offspring. It could be poop, a parasite, or something else.

I would chuck it out and watch the rest for at least 2 weeks before feeding them to axies.

thankyou for the advice! i will go look to see if i can see it again i didnt take it out (oops) didnt think :) definitely will quarantine them for a few weeks :) thankyou! :)

If you want to make sure your worms are healthy you can always order them online - that's what I do because I found I wasn't getting many from my garden.

I use Yorkshire Worms - you can get a good amount plus delivery for around a fiver, they're grown completely without pesticides etc, and they tend to arrive a day or so after ordering. This is the webbie: Buying Lobworms, Worm Fishing for Salmon, Earthworms for Sale, Wormeries for Fishing, Worms Coarse

This is just a suggestion, though. If you're happy getting them from your garden no worries, I just found this a little easier.

Best way catching worms in my experience is the old fashioned way. Stick a pichfork in the ground (preferably a patch of grass) and tap the stick in a rythmic way. Within seconds the worms will fly at your throat. This works well shortly after rainfall.

I don't know if you're mimicking a burrowing mole or falling rain this way though.

Thankyou to both your replies. I was going to buy them but at the minute money isnt the best arpund christmas. So I got them out of my sisters garden because I live near fields and didn't want to risk pesticides :) ... oh I used a pichfork just didnt try the tapping it took me ages to find them :-/ .... thankyou guys! :)
