Hi,
I got two axies on Wednesday. The albino seems fine, eating well, gills seem normal. However the gold one this morning is floating I have only seen it eat one worm on Friday, some of its toes seem to be a bit bloody gills we're a bit forward yesterday but as I have read on Google you just need to monitor so I did.
Tank has play sand, plastic plants and a filter which I have made point to the glass to try to not be so powerful
temp 23.5 Celsius
Parameters
Gh 180
Kh 180
No2 5
No3. 40

Gold one is now back on bottom but Gills are forward (how he was yesterday)
Please help I don't know what to do/not to do, this is first time we have had axies.
Thanks

So sorry for your baby. :-(

I am not very experienced, but I do know your tank temp is a bit high for axolotls. Ideally you shouldn't be higher than 20 degrees Celsius, and even that is the highest end. Should aim to keep the tank between 15-18 degrees Celsius.

You tank is way too hot! Also, was your tank cycled before you added your axies?

Sorry to hear about Axel.

Looking at your water parameters it looks as if your tank is not fully cycled.

If you need some information or help on cycling your tank just let us know.
It is worth moving your remaining axolotl to a smaller container with 100% daily dechlorinated water changes while you tank cycles, so that it avoids the high levels of ammonia and nitrite that would be produced.

Best of luck.
