Hi, so me and my family are on vacation and my dad checked our home thermostat this morning and it said 53. We left our pets at home with our vet neighbor, but I’m a little worried about my axolotl. Will she be okay? My dad turned it up and it’s climbing, but she will be okay right? We are headed home in 2 days. I’m not sure how long it was.

it wont hurt her. theyre cold water animals anyway. at most, her metabolism my slow a little, but if they can handle being put in the refrigerator, a slight drop in tank temp wont be that big of a deal.

Sorry my reply is so late but thanks! I didn’t see this but I came home and she was fine.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
