Hi I'm new to the site. I live in the Toutle River Valley in Washington. I caught some tadpoles from a pond for my girls. There were 3 tadpole larvae that ate the tadpoles.

About a week ago, 2 of them morphed. I've been trying to ID them since then and haven't found anything. I figured that the forum might be able to help.

Length - about 1.5 inches
Color - Black bodies with greenish-gold stripe down back that spreads out on head
Body shape - long slender bodies with egg shaped heads

If you need any other info just ask. Unfortunately I don't have the internet to post a picture.

Those are long-toed salamanders, Ambystoma macrodactylum. The care for all ambystomatids is basically the same, so you can check out the caresheet for tiger salamanders (and the housing and feeding sections in this article) and marbled salamanders, and keep your long-toeds in the same manner.

As an aside, these guys are my favorite ambystomatids (but don't tell the others!). What they lack in size, they make up for in personality. And how can you resist their 'racing stripe'?

I know what you mean! One of my little guys is so friendly! My girls love them!
