As i was about to feed Nigella she started to open her mouth and close her mouth repeatedly for about one minute i think, and then she stopped.
It was if she was choking but i hadn't started feeding yet so i don't know what caused it. I found this really distressing

I've never even heard of this so i'm betting this is very serious!

I honestly thought she was a goner

Any ideas ppl?

Axolotls do weird things. They yawn, gulp, gape, chase their tails.

What are your water parameters? Do you have an airstone or a filter that aerates the water?

She may just have gotten excited over food.

I've caught glimpses of her yawning plenty of occasions before, it's just that she was doing it for so long repeatedly it didn't seem normal.

The water has plenty of oxygen and water quality is normal. I'm probably just paranoid as i've had her going 6 years, and have had scarcely anything wrong with her.

i agree with joan, she probably just got over excited from the food lol.

I sure hope so!

Thankyou for your words of wisdom everyone!

I checked Nigella last night and she was opening and closing again. However this time she coughed up a tiny amount of a green "mucus" like substance. I've never read of this before

This can't be normal.

Aha, My axie did that when I put him in the fridge, Loads of green stringy looking stuff floating in the container with him, I assume that you axie was 'blocked' and got rid of whatever it was (Am I right people?) Anyway my axie got better after this happened, Let's hope the same applies to yours. :)
