Hi,
I had newts years ago, bought from the pet stores like many of us remember. Cynops Pyrrhogaster and Orientalis. My daughter recently discovered newts on a family hike and asked if we could get some. That was when I found out they are hard to find!
I hope to get back into newt keeping, preferably with Cynops Pyrrhogaster if I can find any.
I have included a pic of the newts we saw on the hike.

Wow, what area were you hiking in?
Welcome to the forum! THings have really changed in the pet industry as far as newts go. No more imports allowed so you won't see all those newts in pet stores. Just captive bred mostly, unless you collect them yourself. Keep an eye on our ads section if you are looking for something to purchase.

If you have any luck finding a breeder with Cynops Orentalis for sale would you shoot a message my way? I've been doing some heavy digging and cant seem to find anyone with them currently!

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
