Hibernation

I read that my Triturus cristatus hibernate on land more often than not. They spend 100% of time idk water right now. They are young, but not sure how young.

During this hibernation time would drain a bit of water and adding more hiding spaces work well? I read from October to February and don’t have a chiller so will be keeping a ~50 degree range with frozen ice packs on top.
Suggestions?
