Here are my two males - Hiroshima pyrrhogaster from Shikoku, Ehime Prefecture.
Now I am looking for a female from Shikoku.

Hi Paul, nice shots!
I intend to adopt that method myself someday

Typical Hiroshima pyrrhogaster patterns on those two!
I have a group from Kochi Prefecture on Shikoku and may post some photos of them -- though that wouldn't help solve your problem!
(I'll ask around to see if I can find somebody here in Japan who can help you...)

Are you aware of there being any interesting distinctions among Shikoku populations as there are among Kyushu populations?

Hi Tim,

it is an easy and useful way to get pictures of the belly. It is no photo, I scan them. Therefore I put them into a plastic box and a wet paper on their backs. Then I set the box on my scanner. So I make pictures of each belly of my Cynops.
The belly coloration of adult Cynops doesn't change within years. So ten or more years later I can identify each of my newts, and know their live history. It is also easy to measure the total length, tail length … on the pictures.

I have no information about morphological or genetic differentiation within the Shikoku populations.
