Hi all. Very new to the world of salamanders. A tiny human found some little guys and after it was in a tiny container for so long we decided to try and insure it would survive. Day we got him we were told he was a tiger salamander. 3 weeks later and I’m still on the search to find out exactly what he is. He was apparently found in a creek. We want to make sure we are giving him a good life. Of the dozens of pages I’ve read about how to care for salamanders I just feel at a loss not knowing specifically what he may be. Any help to identify Crackers is much appreciated! His gills disappeared in a week so the pics with the colored plant were within the first week. Also the pic of him in my hand was while relocating him, I try not to handle him without gloves since idk what he is exactly and I don’t want to hurt him. We’re located in Southern IL
