I'm fairly new to all things amphibious (if thats a real word) and in the last few months have fallen head over heals in love with Axies, they have a fantastic 4 foot tank and I have just started to raise my own larvae (with a few traumas:( and high points:D) anyway, I currently have an empty 2 foot tank and I think this is criminal, so, after having browsed the gallery (as I have many times before) I have started to think Hmmmm, Newts.

I would love anything that a pair or more could comfortably live in a 2 footer, maybe with a bit of land if they like to bask but mainly aquatic and is readily available in the England.

I won't be jumping into anything but would just like to get some ideas of species that I should start falling in love with.

Many Thanks
Alison

I own firebelly newts and i find them great. The adults are mainly aquatic but do come out of the water occasionally. They don't grow too big either though and mine seem to have great personalities. I don't know about any others but i can reccomend the firebellies-Chinese or Japanese.

Ooooh just goggled them, they look nice, what if any is the difference between chinese & japanese fire bellies?

Chinese (C.orientalis) are typically smaller, darker, and have a rounded tail tip.

Japanese (C.pyrhorrgaster) are larger, have pointed tail tips, and have more brilliant breeding colors.

There are probably other differences, but these are in my opinion, the most obvious.
