Hornwort needles turning white/silver?

So I just bought some hornwort yesterday for my firebelly newts tank and some of the needles are turning white?
It's free floating on the surface so I'm not really sure if there's something wrong.
The only other plant is a java fern which seems to be doing fine.

Hornwort often dies back while adjusting to a new tank/parameters. It can get really messy. I've had mine die back to stems but no matter how dead and gone I think it is I could always find some alive and thriving next time I water changed.
