How do people react to your axolotls?

Just wondering how people react when you tell them you have axolotls?

In my experience, most people don't know what they are. But when I've explained i've had some strange reactions. For example :
"you're crazy"
"Is that a dinosaur?"
"why would you want one of those?"
And my aunty is still convinced they're called Axylootoo's

Well you can't hug it or pet it or play with it can you? (mum)
Eeeeww! (mum's friend aged 92)
cool! (nephew)
Oh wow - Ive never seen one of those before! (friend)
It's an axolotl - are you impressed I know what it is? (friend)
What is it? (several friends)
You feed it WHAT? Oh how gross.... (friend)
oh cute! (colleague)
Aaahh, what little darlings (sister)

My mom calls it an axowaxel. My dad calls it an Axel.

"Can I touch them? Or will it rip my finger off?" (And then I let one of my axies bite my finger, love the reaction of the person watching it: )
"Hey, that's pretty cool"
"They aren't real... ARE THEY!? No waaaay!"

My intro when I show people pictures of my axies: "Aren't they cute?! They look like under water Muppets!"

The responses?

"Oooohhh, those are neat looking!"

"Eeeewwww...gross!"

"Those are UGLY!"

"They live 15 YEARS! Why would you want a lizard that lives that long?!"

"Cool! where can I get one!"

Alot of different reactions.

My Uncle hes a joker laughs every time he sees it because he thinks it looks like a ........... with legs.

My Dad thinks its the coolest things and tells everyone about them.
Little cousins thinks it looks like Muddkip a Pokemon which i kinda think it does too.
One older cousin is terrified of it and thinks its the ugliest things she has ever seen.
Friends that are girls think they are adorable.
Most of my parents friends think they are fish tank decorations until they move.

" Are they poisonous?"
" Can you give me one!"
" looks like the how to train your dragon dragon"
" What are those things on the side of the head?"
" Why do you fish have feet!!"
" Do they ever leave the water?"
" Can i hold it!!"
" Do people eat them?"
" Shouldn't the water be hot if they are from mexico?"

Well most of the reactions are not really suited here.

But the best i had was this huge tradesman lean over the tank.

"what the bloody begeezers is that ugly thing??"
Pablo was floating legs splayed gills flicking mouth open prob thinking the same thing!

He didnt get the job.. Dont like my Axie , i wont give u the work! Simple.

HAHAHA yes my little pink Axolotl is a poisonous Electric Eel stinging creature with razor sharp shark like teeth! BEWARE!!

I take great delight in telling the ones that don't like mine that they're carnivorous so they really shouldn't get to close to the tank in case they're considered the next meal!!! It amuses me.......

Most comments range from "they're ugly" to "they're cute", what are they, where'd they come from, why did you get one, that looks like a mobile ***** (my leucistic), don't get it, tell me all about them, where can I get one....the questions are endless.

Have found my axies have become great conversation starters, especially Rosie in my office. I know more people on my floor at work now than I did 6 months ago!!!! News gets rounds and they all wanna see the "dinosaur / lizard thing".

I've had a 'eww they're weird fish thingys' to 'OMG they are some much more interesting and kool than fish'. I liked that reaction! One of my mates bfs actually use to keep them so knew what they were and seeing mine made him want more lol. I've also had the pokemon response *eyeroll*

Unfortuatly one of my friends has clicked that refering to them as 'fish' irritates me and now always calls them my fish :-/
