Just wondering,...... I had a wild-type male spanish ribbed newt with my leucistic female until 8 days ago when I replaced the male with a leucistic male. They have been amplexing on and off for the last week, and I noticed new eggs today. What are the chances that they are from the Leucistic male.? She had been laying eggs previously (about 10 days ago) from the wild-type male. I guess I am asking how long does the female store semen for?????? Or can there be multiple donors to offspring???? Hoping for some leucistic larva.:yin-yang:
 
Female caudates can store sperm, but I suspect the length of time varies from species to species. You are in the perfect position to provide the answer!!! This could be really interesting to find out. It's rare that someone can "do the experiment" that you have just done!

Please write down the dates - the date you removed the previous male, the date you introduced the new male, and the dates any eggs are laid. And then figure out which batches of eggs produce dark vs. light larvae.

I have been breed a heterozygous for leucistic male with a leucistic female for a couple few weeks now. It seems my female produces eggs about 6 hours on average after the spermataphore is taken into the body. The fastest happened in only 3 hours, which was only 5 hours after I unpackaged the male. Best of luck.
 
Will let you know, I pulled 25 eggs out already and all have neurolated and are developing nicely. I did some research and apparently spanish ribbed newts have gone to space (in the 80's and 90's) because of their ability to store sperm for up to five months. They were testing weightless reproduction. I guess we'll find out in a couple of weeks.......
 
Well we have some answers!!!! So female srn's can store sperm for at least 8 days, and take sperm from a new male!!! Of the 25 eggs I found, 2 are leucistic. So my wild type female has only ever had wild type offspring for the last three years with the same male. 8 days after replacing the wild male with the leucistic male she had 23 wild-type offspring and 2 leucistic offspring. Interesting!!!
