i recently got a new axolotl and despite over a month of quarantine it seems to have infected my tank with anchor worms. the only remedies i can find suggest the use of meth blue and other such fish medicines. i know these are bad for axolotls and was wondering if anything else, other than a serious tank overhaul and some salt baths , could help resolve this frustrating situation...

I'm not sure methylene blue will eliminate anchor worm. It's an o.k. treatment for secondary infections caused by anchor worms. Methylene blue is o.k. to use sparingly on axolotls.

From what I've read, I doubt that either methylene blue or salt baths will get rid of anchor worm. You may need to treat the entire tank with dimilin - this is a medication sold for use in koi. I have no idea how safe it is for axies, but other people have used it and the axies survived. Let us know what you try and how it works.

i read about dimilin and a chemical called clout which claim to eliminate anchor worms with minimal damage to the axies. i will look into this a bit further and see if i can actually get hold of either of these, and also give the tank a severe clean out and medicate them in a seperate tank meanwhile.
its good to know meth blue can be used in case they become infected though.
