Hey,

I seem to have accidentially aquired too many fish after buying mixed guppies (herp derp) so I want to get my axies used to taking them - one of them and my anderson twins have both taken to them exceedingly and are hand-fed but my diva melanoid will only take non-live food that floats past her face at he bottom.
Is there a way to make dead fish sink? If I take a guppie and kill it, can I stop it floating at the top so my axie can get at it?

You could use a long pair of tweezers/tongs and wave the fish in front of your axies face.

My axolotls like to eat stuff off the surface. Have you tried just letting it float for about an hour to see if she'll eat it that way?

Hey Justin, thanks for your response.
Most of mine will come to the top and will take food from fingers/tongs - but my female melanoid was a bit traumatised about food when I got her and now she will only eat pellets and tiny worms if i drop them pretty much on her head. She seems quite frightened of tongs or even chopsticks! She's getting better though - I just wondered if there was a way I could get fish to sink past her.

The air bladder inside the fish has enough air inside it to make the fish float. You can pop the air bladder and release the air by pushing a needle thru the dead fish body and then gently squeezing the abdomen of the fish til the air bubbles out .
