How to grow moss?

I went to Scandinavia for three weeks, and along the way I stopped by a lake and found a spider shaped root that was nicely preserved. It was perfect for my vivarium,so I took it back home. Now I want to grow moss all over it. Can anyone help? Also, does anyone have any suggestions for the type of moss to grow on it?

Will it be under water or on land? Java moss is probably your best choice and it will grow underwater and on land but when growing emerged it requires very high humidity.

All of the log will be on the land, although one small branch will be in the water.
