Hello, tell me, please, what to do with my axolotls.
Aquarium 112 liters, water cooler, external filter, the water temperature was always no higher than 20. Recently fed only squid, ground-pebbles, not swallow.
Three weeks ago, one of axolotls started to refuse to eat and lose weight, began to force-feed mix of egg yolk, pollen and calcium permanganat and calcium glycerophosphate. Axolotl has not started to eat a lot of weight, and the other with a heavy swell, but ate himself.
In the end, I dropped strongly temperature from +5 to + 10, added a little water Methylenum coeruleum and the third day I put injection Baytril 2,5% in the hind paw of 0.05 ml per 100 g of weight. Baytril put both axolotls, read that swollen axolotl can put Lasix, also read that thinner Axolotl forcibly give Royal Canin Recovery, until it begins to eat itself.
Whether I'm doing, thanks in advance, Best regards, Irina.

The foods you're providing aren't really axolotl appropriate. I'm not sure the exact nutritional make-up of squid, but I imagine it is high in salt and iodine. Egg yolk and dog food can be used in an emergency, but it is not a long-term solution. If you are going to force-feed, you should force-feed quality food, like small chunks of earthworms or softened carnivore pellets.

Are you sure your axolotl has not swallowed pebbles? That would explain the swelling, or 'bloat', caused by an intestinal obstruction or impaction. Have you seen any poop?

Lasix is a diuretic. If your axolotl has edema caused by organ failure, lasix will temporarily bring the swelling down, but it will not cure anything. Adding methylene blue to the water is probably not doing any good. Why are you injecting baytril? Are there signs of infection? The stress of injections probably won't help.

What you need to do is get them off gravel right away and offer small, live, wiggling food. Keep them cool and clean.

Hello, Kaysie!
When I previously fed axolotls mosquito larvae, gets a lot of different infections from food, even soaked in a solution of Mn, so I translated them for fish and squid, and earthworms to feed the earth are not squeezed in my power ...
Pebbles I had a very difficult and no smaller than a matchbox, but now removed it.
Methylenum coeruleum clean, thanks.
Injection of Baytril been reading on the Russian sites of axolotls, veterinarians advised .... We have a very hard with experts in axolotls yet, so to address you. And on account of infection, visible signs, except that one to three weeks and do not feed the rapidly losing weight, and the other eats, but a few days as swollen, there are no signs of ...

Hello! ! ! ! ! ! I cured the aksolotly, completely itself having changed treatment! On December 18 they any more didn't eat one аксолотль month, another - two months, started injecting them 1 mm of a tablet (a tiny slice) Laevomycetinum divorced in one cube of water with a pipette. So I did three days, then for feed a slice tiny the tablets Laevomycetinum I added in a yolk of egg and so every day. For the fifth day they started eating independently, swelled at blown up completely slept, began to feed with the Californian worms and into them I thrust a tiny slice of Laevomycetinum, already for result fixing a week, then time a week three times. Eat with pleasure, vigorous, happy also additives ask! ! ! ! ! ! ! I suspect that they at both had a sepsis, one thus exhausted, and another was blown up, read that such different symptoms can be at sepsis.... In any case, the antibiotic of Laevomycetinum helped! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !
I congratulate all on Christmas and New year! ! ! ! Happiness, pleasure and health to you and your pets! ! ! ! ! ! !

Are you able to show us a picture of the blackness and swelling? Have you tested your water for ammonia, PH, nitrates and nitrites?

It sounds like an injury has possibly got infected. If that is the case he will probably loose his foot/paw - it might just 'drop off', it will grow back in time though so do not worry if this happens. If you can get a vet to look at him it would be a good idea as if the foot does need to be removed then a vet is the best person to do this unless you have some very sharp and clean scissors and very very steady hands plus someone to help you keep the Axolotl still.

I would separate your axolotls for now to give him a break and to stop any infection possibly spreading to another tank mate. You can put the injured animal in a clean plastic container or bucket with some dechlorinated water. Make sure you change the water everyday with clean dechlorinated water.

Have you read the 'stickies' on this forum on fridging and salt baths? If not I would suggest you do so you can prepare to do this if you need to.

I will heal, I hope she will fall off in place of a healthy, thank you, according to the results necessarily accomplish your goal!

It really concerns me with the amount of chemicals etc that you are using. Is this all in order to heal the foot? If so, then clean, dechlorinated water in a cool place will do the trick.

I agree. Fridging your axolotl in clean water, no chemicals added, should help.
If any fungus should develop onto that paw (sometimes that happens on wounds), give him a salt or tea bath.

But I'd say... no more adding chemicals please, in the end they can often do more harm than not for axolotls. They're very sensitive to water chemistry.

Yes, thanks to an antibiotic they escaped and started eating, water at me always cold, costs the water refrigerator, besides a filtration daily substitution of water.

I to exclude an antibiotic at least once a week yet I won't risk, and Methylenum coeruleum I will clean, trays from tea too today I read already, at all I didn't hear earlier about similar, I will try, thanks a lot! )

If you have access to a veterinarian, I would have that leg amputated.

A hand is raised, anesthesia under water did several years ago with a unique operation in Germany, axolotls, and cut, bringing great pain tormented animal pity and fear recovers, she will fall off, we read in the south of Russia in men sepsis newts edge eroded, he had them one Laevomycetinum cured, healed all, only on the edges of the scar remained. After watching another, eats very well and very cheerful, today she tries to twist itself this leg even bite myself until I changed the water ....
