Hello Caudata.org,

How do I go about making my feeder dish escape-proof? I want to use a Fluker's corner bowl for a feeder dish to serve isopods to my sal, I tested its escapability and the isopods could get out of one corner. I assumed I could smooth this corner out somehow, I couldn't think about how to do this. is there a better way to make it more fail-proof? perhaps make a ring around the top with hot glue so the isopods cant crawl out and will just fall when they try? Nothing urgent just hoping to not have to buy another food dish that is less naturalistic.

Thank you, JaceW/

I make them using a plastic, opaque deli cup with a lid. Simply cut out the center of the lid, leaving a lip. Bear in mind, some feeders are very good at escaping regardless.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
